STATE SYSTEM OF HIGHER EDUCATION-MATHEMATICS ASSOCIATION

BUSINEES MEETING

LOCK HAVEN UNIVERSITY OF PA

March 31, 2001

The meeting started at 12:40 a.m.

The minutes were approved.

Treasure Randy Schaeffer announced that the balance is $2264.62 and that eleven out of fourteen institutions paid their dues.

Johnston announced that he has compiled an e0mail directory of all mathematics faculty at the state system. He will update it by next fall.

Shembari announced that his institution is not willing to allow “.org” for the SSHEMA website.  There are two options, one is to buy space somewhere and the other is to leave it as it is, i.e., bookmarked.

Shembari reminded presenters at the SSHEMA Conference that they give, if they desire so, their papers to be included in the Proceedings.  These can be in Word, HTML, or PDF.  In the past, each author and each university got a copy of the proceedings.

Clarion Conference did break even and possibly Lock Haven will also break even.

The proposed changes of SSHEMA Constitution and Bylaws were announced.  There will be a vote on these at next year’s business meeting.

There was a letter sent to PDE related to the Draft Guidelines for Professional Education Programs.  This letter is an indication of SSHEMA to have an input in the development of the guidelines.

Officers Election.  A list of officers was distributed.  Johnston, Bolinger, Schaeffer, and Boukaabar were elected as Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary respectively.

Other Business:  Johnston announced that two new attendees would have conference fees waived.  Schaeffer invited everybody to come to Kutztown University, the host site of the next conference.  Gendler congratulated the officers, the local hosts, and Elaine carbon and mentioned that things went really well.

The meeting adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Kaddour Boukaabar
